The original inspiration for “Rebel” returns to The Grange in 2013 with a new art show, Rebel.2. Heritage Mississauga is delighted to welcome a new art exhibit featuring the art work from students of Erindale Secondary School. These young artists were asked to produce an original work of art inspired by the theme of “Rebel” in art and in the modern world. The exhibit features over 75 original works of art on 6x6 canvasses.

Heritage Mississauga celebrates REBEL 13 by launching the inaugural issue of TheGrange, a new comic book series created in partnership with the talents of MaddSketch, Vince Sunico, Arnold Trinidad and Daniel Wong. The comic focuses on the interesting and unique history of the City of Mississauga. Free copies will be distributed at key REBEL 13 events, during Free Comic Book Day May 4th and can also be found at Libraries and Community Centres across Mississauga.

Twitter has become an extraordinary social media platform to discuss ideas and to relay information. Various questions regarding the art of calligraphy will be sent via Twitter, generating interest in the topic. The responses will then be used in the calligraphy workshop session. A graphic composition of the questions and answers both in twitter text and calligraphy forms will become the bases of the mural. The final image will be painted onto a long public wall (weather permitting) during REBEL Week.

Kick-off Rebel with Ignite! Ignite is a geek event in over 100 cities world-wide. At the events, Ignite presenters share their personal and professional passions, using 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds for a total of just five minutes. Their goal: enlighten us, but make it quick! This motivational, educational and inspirational event showcases a range of exciting performances, empowering videos and 10 speakers including David Lockett, Professor Anthony Wensley, Rima Berns-McGown and Zehra Abbas. The performance event Winding Road is an interactive art installation. It will occur at the Bradley Museum for 1-2 days and will continue after Rebel in further phases. Artist Noelle Hamlyn will create a warping board and dancer Colleen Snell will choreograph an afternoon performance. We will discover the poetry of weaving and community. Community members are encouraged to take part in this unique interactive art installation combined with a dance performance.

Dancer, choreographer, filmmaker and multimedia producer extraordinaire Simone Maurice joins Clarkson’s local skater community to create unique action movies over two weekends. Learn how to use your digital phone and camera to develop a short narrative film including the fundamentals of script writing and image selection. These final minute long skater flicks created by students will premiere on May 7 at Mississauga Celebration Square.
Simone has produced videos for a range of award winning interactive projects. Her career includes a stint as an on-air dancer and pop culture pundit for Chum Television and key content driver for Gemini award-winning websites includingTasteBudsTV.com and StokedTV.com.

Street artists and skateboarders experience public spaces within a city through the lens of their respective passions. Celebrated artist, Dan “Fauxreel” Bergeron will lead an open discussion on how artists and skateboarders relate to one another and the role of the artist in public spaces. He will use this opportunity to hear feedback on a new public art commission he is working on for the City of Mississauga which focuses on re-animating an existing skate park in the downtown core.

The intention of Behaviour as an urban arts festival is to inspire the vibrant imaginations of youth and ignite the reminisced memories of an older audience. Presenting a world of professional ‘youth talent initiatives’ that includes: music, visual arts, dance, artist performances, local business support through vendor markets and an accurate portrayal of Hip-Hop Culture through collaboration. Since 2009, Behaviour has become an opportunity for reframing stereotypes of urban culture within the suburbs, as well as educating the public on its creative background and positive influence.
On May 4 & 5, Behaviour returns! Behaviour's Block Party and specifically its "Pow Wow” will host the essential representation or "Gathering" of urban contemporary and traditional culture in Mississauga. Participants from all walks of life will meet, dance, sing, socialize and honour their indigenous culture, art, style, nations and cities here.

Using swirls of paint, renowned sports artist David Arrigo will capture and celebrate the cultural and sporting history of communities hosting the TORONTO 2015 Games in a series of legacy murals.
David Arrigo will not be painting alone; over the next few months he will visit municipalities across the Games footprint and call on local community members to add their personal touch to the canvas and help finish the murals.
On July 10, 2013, the Pan Am Mural Experience presented by CIBC, will be unveiled in Mississauga and other venue municipalities across the Games footprint to celebrate the two-year countdown to the Games.
